This is all mumbo jumbo to me. Can someone pls put it simply for me, Is this good or bad?
Well, if this was a trial we'd probably need more evidence to conclude whether or not it's good or bad.
New Hope decided that it should borrow some money ($200,000). There's at least a perception and probably a reality that borrowing this amount may prove difficult if tackled along conventional lines given that New Hope is a coal supplier, a thermal coal supplier at that.
A company would typically borrow money from their bank associates or utilize a line of credit that's already in place when making such a borrowing but the coal supplier has opted not to test the waters but borrow the required funds by issuing convertible notes to a "new group of global institutional investors".
After costs, New Hope expects to receive about $196,000 since $4,000 is lost due to the costs of the process. After that New Hope will pay 2.75% interest on the loans, payable every six months.
Sometime after three years but by 2nd July, 2026, the lenders can convert their convertible loan into New Hope shares.
It's a reasonably complex process explained well by the contributors to this thread but I get it, you're over that.
The whole idea of a borrowing and the way they've gone about it has taken everyone (well most people) by surprise and the market doesn't like surprises, much less surprises that they can't quite understand.
How they use these funds is the bit we have to wait and see about and, of course it's how they use the money that will ultimately decide the good or bad bit.
When announcing the undertaking, they made reference to an "opportunistic M & A activity" so we watch.
Sometimes investing and deciding whether something is "good or bad" just gets down to the trust you have in the owners and managers.
I trust these guys.
