"...The concerns voiced by the boss of the east coast gas producer are set to be echoed by Adam Watson, chief executive of pipeline owner APA Group, and Cooper Energy’s Jane Norman, as well as by the Bass Strait co-venturers ExxonMobil and Woodside Energy, the biggest east coast domestic suppliers. But they clash with the views of environmental groups which argue against any relaxation of controls over gas development amid the worsening climate crisis.

Cooper Energy chief executive Jane Norman is expected to reinforce the comments, blaming government intervention for exacerbating the shortage risk as capital and investment shifts to other countries.
She will also highlight the need for streamlined approvals processes for projects, which currently can take up to four years in onshore and offshore Victoria, compared to less than six months for onshore South Australia.
Cooper is experiencing strong demand from customers for any new gas the company can bring to the market, with LNG imports as the next best option if that domestic supply does not emerge, Ms Norman will say.
