I was in Westonia for the day about 55 years ago, while I was waiting for some paperwork to be finished, I took a walk into town & got talking to an old gold miner, at that time living in an old bank or post office. He offered to show me his gold mine which was down the end of the main street, when we got there all I noticed was collapsed ground, one lot about 15-20 cm higher than the other & near bye was a concrete gold vault with the steel door removed to go elsewhere.
He explained that after the days work when exiting the mine he would place matches in the floor & on the walls close together..One day coming to work he noticed the matches had moved & he never went back in, two days later the whole lot collapsed.
On return to his house he gave me some white quarts about the size of a football to examine,In the sun I could see nothing, he said try putting it under the tap.After that It looked like rays of the sun coming through the clouds with dozens of fine gold strands running through it. A very interesting day, well spent.
