While I basically agree with the assessment above that this first hole appears to have little potential. At the other end of what appeared to be a disappointing first hole, RD1, something else eventuated.
Olympic dam discovery history. Extract:
Two diamond drill holes were scheduled to determine the thickness of the sedimentary cover and the nature of the underlying prospective rocks. RD1 was drilled near Olympic Dam, so named because it was constructed during the Melbourne Olympic Games, and passed through 325m of barren cover before entering brecciated, hematite-rich rocks that appeared to be of little interest The drilling rig moved 22km to the SW to drill ACD1 at Appendicitis Dam, now called the Acropolis prospect.
The drill core from RD1 was routinely sampled and returned assays of 35m at 1% copper. Not economic at that depth, but very encouraging. In the following 2 years 8 more drill hoes were completed that contained minor copper, but then RD10 demonstrated the true potential of the area with an intersection of 145m at 2.2% copper together with uranium and gold. The geology was baffling and did not fit any known ore deposit model.
Z1 is not likely to throw up the surprises that RD1 did, but the alteration, presence of Cu minerals, and the size of the geophysical target do make a 1.2 Km step out a reasonable exploration procedure.
Chances of hitting grade/width with first hole at a new anomaly? Chances of hitting at all at a new anomaly? Pretty low for both so a technical indication is better than complete duster.
This is A future of exploration in Oz. Shallow deposits mostly found and search at depth becoming the necessity(?) unless - overseas where exploration has been less intense. Other issues....
Z1 access and site visible on GE image. Z2 on recent satellite imagery.
===========================
Satellite pass at Aileron yesterday.
Only one site at Crean showed a vague hint of any activity and no new access tracks were noted (or expected).
The site marked revisited is likely an artifact. A deep drilling extension may be a possibility. though too deep for current economic interest.
No drilling appears to have happened at Wild!! Usually relatively obvious but could have missed it.
