Patients volunteer for trials for mostly altruistic reasons - they want to improve outcomes for others. That said, the informed consent process also allows them to gauge whether the procedure being offered is likely to be better (or the same) as the status quo.

He will have full and frank discussions with these patients as to whether the Admedus valve is right for them. He wouldn't be offering it if he didn't believe in it.
