I agree with your whole sentiment here.
I disagree however with THX's approach to 'follow the pipes' based on research suggesting this technique is not to be relied upon and isn't very successful (see the last article I posted). Geochem and goephys analysis combined with technology (various surveys) seems to be a better approach.
