I've been thinking about exactly this. In the current market, kicking goals and making progress is only holding off SP decline.
I feel like TLG has been bogged down when times are good, and now they're doing good when times are bad. In the end, the result is this remarkably flat chart. The SP is down, but it's not down. If TLG hadn't reached so many milestones they'd absolutely be down a lot more, like many of the other speccies.
