'Fast track' refers to the approval process! ..... not taking short cuts in the preclinical, phase 1, 2 & 3, manufacturing and quality control steps. Phase 1 & 2 can easily be done here quite quickly and by the time Phase 3 is rolled out....possibly early next year, I think there will be 35% or more of the Australian population still unvaccinated....so still plenty of candidates to be available. AstraZeneca's main trial was completed (primary completion) in just over 6 months with a patient enrollment of approximately 32,000. The Australian study could be set up in a couple of centres in capital cities with of course an 'incentive' payment for each patient for their "inconvenience" each visit. Will cost probably $ 25m plus to conduct the trials, but if the phase 2 trials have good results money won't be hard to find.
