There are many telling signs when it comes to the use of words. For example, the use of the word "mate". In Australia, this word is used in a negative context. When you want to respectfully disagree, respectfully disrespect someone or respectfully tell someone to f* off you simply use the word, "mate!" and everyone understands what it means.
Not to be mistaken how this word is used differently in NZ, UK, and India.
Care should be taken when trying to speak in somebody else's language. English in Europe is not the same as English down under.
