That's because it isn't. The Americans made the same decision didn't they?
My post, slightly adjusted from what I posted elsewhere might explain my position.
One aspect I am coming to re-evaluate the significance of is the impact of Environmental approval.
I've been investigating metallurgical advances that could help offset the looming copper deficit. There are some that may be able to bridge the majority of the gap if assiduously applied. I expect they would apply to our project as well. However, this morning I read through WDS's (Woodside's) go-ahead on Trion in the Gulf of Mexico and saw the huge effort to offset negative environmental impact. Then when I asked GPT Chat to compare two mining resources for an external request. Apart from a lot of bumpf, the last point was:
Environmental Considerations: The environmental impact of mining operations is a significant consideration. Factors such as water usage, waste management, and potential impacts on local ecosystems and communities should be taken into account and assessed against applicable regulations and sustainability practices.
I can see from both the metallurgical enhancements possible: CGR Coarse grind Roughing, CFR Coarse Float Roughing and Sulphide leach that would improve our project's running costs by say 25% having the environmental aspect covered will be a very important aspect too. Because a lot of projects are just going to get jammed for ages like Mc Macphillamys is in NSW. Which obviously strongly enhances Kalkaroo's attractiveness to buyers.
I hope people don't get angry with my apparent sacrilege. I'm just trying to keep an open mind. I've been though this before and it appears to be baked up with the big miners deliberate decision not to invest in accelerated fashion as might otherwise be expected.
All IMVHO.
