Yes, a magnetic solution is possibly the way to go, but extraction of REEs requires more than just magnets..
This year there was published a rewarding laboratory experiment. Eudialyte was first treated with sulphuric acid and then the required minerals were separated by magnetics.

Maybe Tanbreez could scale up this procedure to create an industrial sized plant.
