US Bipartisan Bill Could End Cuban Embargo
A bipartisan group of US Senators introduced a bill to open trade markets with Cuba. However, it faces an uphill battle to surpass the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Elizabeth Warren said: “It is long past time for us to normalize relations with Cuba. This legislation…moves us in the right direction by increasing economic opportunities for Americans and the Cuban people.”
Cuba was the US’ ninth most significant market for agricultural exports before the 1962 Missile Crisis, before plummeting to 50th today - but remains the island’s top supplier. Nearby Dominican Republic imported seven times as many US agricultural products over the last three years despite a near-identical population.
