Oil/gas shows in the first 5 metres once you're through the seal = material/cause for a trading halt.
Drilling a dry well all the way to target depth = material at target depth/plugged and abandoned.
This is why there's usually a timing difference between announcements for succesful and unsuccessful wells. It's also why the longer the announcement takes to come, the more likely it is to be a bad outcome.
