It depends on where the business direction is going. Appen was already differentiating our of data annotation so even though is a hard blow, it's still maintaining the business in its direction.
The question is if Appen can survive the blow this year without major consequences.
Funny enough the same thing is happening in the place I work this year. We'll be losing a major partner hence a cut of 10-20% of revenues but it's not a great partner in terms of ethical work / compliance / operational planning / growth prospect... so many directors in my business see this as a great opportunity to refresh and continue on a growth trajectory without impediments this partner may have continued to bring.
