I made that mistake about 11 years ago with continental coal (CCC). CEO was Peter Landau and now he's a convicted criminal in prison. I lost the lot as the company went broke based on his lies.
There was a Hotcopper poster running around the Hotcopper forum called kiwipete (I think)warning everyone how dodgy he was and to get out of CCC while you still can. I chose to ignore his posts because he was only one person but he was exactly right. Appen is nothing like that company. It was heavily in debt with a criminal CEO hell bent on lining his own pockets with capital raises for a coal mine in South Africa and he did it will a few other companies too before that. Rinse and repeat was his method.
