Its nice to see the word "oil" mentioned again by CVN in regard to the Phoenix prospect.
Its even nicer to see them talking about being able to potentially test this prospect for oil(along with a second gas prospect in addition to the 1980 success by BP) for no obvious extra cost to CVN at this time.
If CVN have any particular talent in the O and G business it seems to be that they have a team that has some ability to pore over past drilling results of others and extract something of value from them .
Time will tell if this is an imagined talent or if they can stay with the play and not exit it as they have done so far at least once in Thailand ,having discovered likely value where others before them had declared a "no result" (= an ostensible failure).
Phoenix is a sandstone/limestone formation and some know my views on sandstone structures.Close to shore ,in shallow water the discovery of a decent quantity of oil would do CVNs SP no harm at all and make us less dependant on the slightly murky scene that is the international lng gas situation .
