IIRC acceleration can be a change in either velocity of movement or in the direction of movement.
So if a body is moving with zero velocity in one direction and then it starts to move with zero velocity in another direction, it has accelerated and it fully deserves a company loan to pay for cheap shares.
My physics is a bit rusty. Happy to be corrected.
