It is more a weakening of the US$ due to the ongoing protests. Once the protest subside, US$ will assume its key role as the safe haven while the world economies are in the doldrum (further out, US$ will crumble when inflation starts rearing tis head in US and this is when we shall seen gold really shines). I think this is temporary.
