When you say 'the value of the company has not changed', you're mixing up the 'value' being book and assets plus potential for growth, with book and assets. Generally when we enter a bear market all the growth potential gets stripped out of stocks ad
and they revert back to what they're actually 'worth' (if everything was to wig out - as we're in a bear so everyones pessimistic).

So the 'value' you are referencing can dramatically change, and has.
