Some good reading on how this week Europe stepped up to the climate investment plate in part to try and stem clean energy transition investment from piling into the USA with their IRA incentives, and that Australia needs to do the same: https://reneweconomy.com.au/eu-piles-pressure-on-australia-to-seize-once-in-a-century-cleantech-opportunity/
Australia's National Reconstruction Fund stands at a meagre $15 B, of which only 8 appears to have currently had sector allocation identified for. In the Global Lithium podcast episode 155, the director of the Loan Programs Office at the US Department of Energy was interviewed, and talked of them only considering loans up around the $ 1 B mark, asking companies to put their big boy pants on.
Australia has just committed to spend over $360 Billion on 8-11 submarines, sure the largest ticket spend in our history.
The aim of the NRF is to diversify and transform Australia’s industry and economy.
I reckon 15 is pretty paltry when viewed through the 2023 periscope and will have to have a Tomahawk up its rear to stop a brain drain offshore and better position Australia in the clean energy supply chain race, of which QPM is in an enviable position as first mover in re-shaping a key mineral process required for the global energy transition.
At a third of the submarine spend, imagine what 120 B could do for the Australian economy in the clean energy race.
Sure regardless as a trusted ally, we will be a part of a EU-UK-SK-JP-USA-AUS-IND partnership to provide a Sino alternative, but how big that part (supporting actor, bit role, extra) is up to the Feds particularly. Will Albo and co be worthy of a gold statue? Let's hope they are thinking global and academy level, and not logie
