War has certainly lifted gold but when you have a bull rally quite often the commodity price only retraces some of the way.
If your reasoning is applied to the 2008 crash. Inflation has only been 3%, then why has gold remained at all time highs. This indicates that 2008 was the catalyst for a bull run on gold but also set a new higher benchmark.
