Resin-fibre composites typically use calcined kaolin as the hydrous version gives issues with curing and degradation. Coarse platey hydrous kaolins are used in paint (especially undercoats and primers) but they are easy to produce by the kaolin majors and don't really fetch a high price. Interesting that Huber applied for a patent back then as it didn't stop anyone else from selling into those sectors.
