A small exert from the report relating to Folschviller 2 has a sniff of cautious optimism imo ...

    3. Gas is being produced. The Company has thus demonstrated that the desorption pressure of the coals (determined to be about 35 bars) can be reached and that the coals will release their gas. This operation has been repeated several times and the results are consistent. Having established in practice the desorption pressure of the coals also bears some significance on the gas deliverability of the wells. This desorption pressure is high and therefore provides a pressure drawdown that facilitates higher gas flow rates in the early production period of the well.

    4. Gas has been produced and measured through a flow meter at sustained rates. While final conclusions cannot be drawn yet as the test has not finished, the currently acquired gas flow rate data, when extrapolated to upcoming testing conditions and applied to a full length development well, suggests that commercial gas flow rates may be achievable. This conclusion had already been previously reached when a well test transient pressure test yielded a coal permeability of 1.7 md, which is considered as a permeability level leading to commercial gas production rates in the Lorraine permits. This previous conclusion has now been confirmed with the first set of gas flow rate and bottom hole pressure data acquired in the ongoing well testing.
