Going by your logic, why is there more than one IoT protocol then?
For instance, why create the Zwave protocol if Zigbee already exists, for example?
I think that if you read up on every one of these, they all come with their individual strengths (and limitations), with recommended applications for use.
Perhaps these commercial protocols are not fit for purpose for what SAS requires?
I don't know the answer, but I will assume that some due diligence was applied.
