"decided I would swallow my pride and buy not only for my wife, but would top up my SMSF as well" - Well done mate. I know this is not an easy thing to do, to go back to old ground where you've lost money, and recognise that the circumstances are different and there is a deep value opportunity.
Identifying the opportunity was the easy part, it was much harder for you mentally with the 'baggage' from your experiences, but you did well. I reckon most investors would fail this test. Spotting opportunities is easier than overcoming mental hurdles.
