a) he can now criticise the management (executives) because he is now considered impartial (no financial interest).
I must admit i wish he was gone so my next comment is biased...
b) reputation cleaning ... i think it is a facile attempt to paint over his many faults and avoid blame for his past greedy behaviour ..."look at me, i come with clean hands to my decisions".
he probably just wants to avoid any criticism or challenges come next AGM so he can stay on the board and enjoy his perks avoid responsibility for his past (mis)deeds ie misinforming/misleading. That might be too harsh but his actions were at least pretty crappy...errgh, biting my tongue...
