Earlier this month, the DLA released an FY19 Mid-Year Forecast of its demands for the period from March to September this year. The demands list covers 453 separate items that the DLA anticipates ordering during this 6 month period. Both an estimate of total quantity needed of each item for the period as well as an anticipated monthly breakdown of those quantities is provided.

The reason for referring to the list here is because it provides some insight into the quantities of different uniform items that the DLA might order over a 6 month period.

Firstly, for the new IHWCUs for the Army (which are an optional item at this stage) the estimated requirement is 110,000 coats and 132,000 trousers.

For the Marines’ MCCUUs, the estimated requirement is 90,000 woodland pattern and 12,000 desert pattern blouses as well as 98,400 woodland pattern and 44,400 desert pattern trousers.

For the standard OCP pattern ACU, orders of 1,236,030 unisex coats and 990,030 unisex trousers are anticipated as well as 236,000 female-cut coats and 226,070 female-cut trousers.

All uniform items I’ve listed above (total quantity of 3,174,930) are manufactured from NyCo and treated with permethrin.

Approximately 4 yards of fabric is required for each uniform set, which is divided into roughly 2 yards per item.

In its solicitation issued early last year for a durable topical FR treatment for MCCUUs, DoD was seeking a technology that would ideally cost as little as $4 per uniform set (say, $2 per item), but no more than $8 per set (say, $4 per item).

Extrapolating from the above, were the above uniforms to be FR treated, the potential cost over this 6 month period would range between $6,350,000 and $12,700,000.

Obviously, there are many other types of uniform items which are required. I’ve only selected the estimated orders for ACUs, MCCUUs and IHWCUs.

FRACUs also appear on the list. The DLA estimates it will need 541,187 FR ACU coats and 325,732 FR ACU trousers over the 6 month period. These are separate to the above calculations.
