Assuming you are correct (proteomics is not one of my areas of expertise) about the esteem in which the journal is held, there might be other reasons they chose this path. It's a long bow to draw saying that the research and / or value of it is below par. Seems the market's response has been neutral, which is not saying much in this brave new trump world..
