On my part, the gold standard was tongue in cheek. I like gold but I don't believe in the gold standard. Gold is far too unevenly distributed to be a sensible foundation for currency - if you haven't got any, above or below ground, the easiest way to get it is too steal it. If it was reintroduced as a standard there would need to be a process to set a fair equilibrium in the first point.

I do strongly believe in the need to remove the capacity of one nation to have the default standard exchange currency - it then invests too much power in that nation to control international systems. My preference would be for a global cryptocurrency as the unit of exchange, not a private crypto a la bitcoin etc though. The best economies would still have the greatest value in such a system but limited ability to control international settlement systems. Then let the world's capital value circulate freely.
