I'm guessing the returns to the banks is greater in a shut down scenario (with more certainty around these values) than entertaining offers they received to buy the business as a going concern (including the alleged offer from 5 Star which, based on media reporting, appears to have been highly conditional and therefore uncertain as to whether or not it would proceed after further due diligence).
