It does seem a good idea to me that sound can be oriented as to direction. This would be an advance on traditional stereo arrangements and maybe an improvement on those once popular surround set-ups.

You mention the advent of Facebook, which has gone hand in hand with the proliferation of mobile phones and their pairing with bluetooth speakers. I find it curious that almost all those bluetooth speakers which I have seen are only capable of mono sound reproduction. That must be a backward step surely? But maybe this suits the young who seem mainly to seek volume at the expense of quality.

The AudioPixels concept, with an array of MEMS devices that can be driven collectively or individually or in some organised pattern could or would, as I visualise it, produce a sound stage with depth, width and colour. Although we only have two ears, when used together they are pretty good at discerning the direction and height of sounds that reach them.

Can anybody comment further?
