So how loud would 80 chips be? Here is my go at a calculation.

They have not recently given an update on the actual SPL of the chip. Back in 2015 they put out a chart showing 80dB at 10cm at 250hz which is about 60dB at 1m.

Each time they double the number of chips would increase the SPL by 6dB. So from 1 chip to 80 is a bit over 6 doublings. So add 36-ish to 60 gives nearly 100dB. So I reckon 100dB is a nice round number and a good level for a hi-fi or home theatre.
