I agree that I expressed that post very badly. It was actually a reflection on my own parenting - prompted by the discussion between few others, including Edmorgrimm. It was in no way intended to provide gratuitous advice to anyone. It was more a reflection of the worrying tendency, in my view, begun with baby boomers and still prevalent, for society in general to be over-protective and over-coddling of children. Even a limited reading of psychology will tell you that such is not good for character development. Not to mention the plague-like proportions of mental illness (ADHD, depression, social anxiety) that is now everywhere. My apologies to anyone who took offence.
