In my view MW leaving the company at this stage is not a good sign. If everything was going well, wouldn't it be better for him to continue as a board member of a successful company, especially given that he was heavily involved in the making of this company and also has significant interest as a shareholder. I would have preferred him to stay than leave, but hope he will focus on other companies that desperately needs his attention....
