APPOINTMENT OF NEW DIRECTOR
The Board of Michael Hill International Limited is very pleased to announce
the appointment of Robert Ian Fyfe as a non-executive Director of Michael
Hill International Limited.
Rob is currently Executive Chairman of New Zealand merino wool clothing
company Icebreaker and a board director of Antarctica New Zealand. Rob served
as CEO of Air New Zealand between 2005 and 2012, a period that saw a
resurgence in Air New Zealand to become one of the most recognized and
awarded airlines in the world and one of the best financial performers in a
tough industry.
During his time as Air New Zealand CEO, Rob also served as Chairman of Star
Alliance, the largest global airline alliance, encompassing 28 airlines and
accounting for more than 25% of global air travel. He was also on the Board
of Governors of IATA; the International Air Transport Association.
During his time at Air New Zealand, Rob received a number of awards
recognizing his leadership and abilities including;
- Executive of the Year (Deloitte Top 200 awards 2009)
- Airline Executive of the Year 2010 and inducted into the Aviation Hall of
Fame 2012 (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation)
- William Pickering Award for Engineering Leadership (Institute of
Professional Engineers 2010)
- Lifetime Achievement Award (Orient Aviation 2012)
- Marketing Excellence Award (TVNZ NZ Marketing Awards 2012)
- CIO Lifetime contribution award (CIO summit 2012)
- New Thinking Award (World Class New Zealanders Awards 2012)
Prior to joining Air New Zealand, Rob had an international business career
having worked in industries as diverse as television, banking and
telecommunications in the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
In terms of NZSX Listing rule 3.3.3(b), the Board has determined Rob Fyfe is
an independent Director. The Board now comprises 8 Directors, 4 of whom are
deemed to be "independent" Directors
( Wayne Peters, Gary Gwynne, Gary Smith and Rob Fyfe).
