I met David a couple of times at SRH's annual general meetings. We didn't chat at great length but long enough for me to gain a firm impression was that he was (1) a gentleman and (2) exactly the sort of person you'd want to have at the boardroom table.

I recall there was a bit of debate at one AGM when David was up for routine re-election to the board. One shareholder bluntly asked him what qualifications and skills he offered Saferoads as a director. David gave a straight bat response but then his two fellow board members (Darren and David Ashmore) each spoke up. They made clear the very high regard they held David in and how valuable his counsel was.
