DIRECTOR RETIREMENT
Smiths City Group Limited (SCY) announces that the company recorded the
retirement of Mr John W Holdsworth as a Director as from the date of the
Annual meeting held on 28.8.12 and Mr Holdsworth then confirmed he was not
seeking re-election.
Mr Craig Boyce, Chairman of SCY, as per the Chairman's Review detailed in the
Annual Financial Statements for the year ending 30 April 2012, said "John
has, as a Director and for a period in the 1990s as Chairman, seen Smiths
City through what, at times, has been challenging and, at other times, an
exhilarating part of the company's history. Having joined in 1988 he stood
by the company during the troubled times of the early 1990's following
Receivership and Scheme of Arrangement which enabled our company to emerge
and rejoin the New Zealand Stock Exchange - the first New Zealand company in
history to do it. Throughout he has been committed to good governance and
full disclosure no matter what the circumstances.
Since 1998 he has contributed significantly to the strategy that has brought
the company through to its current position and provided support and
encouragement to the management.
He also, of course, by taking the largest shareholding in the Company,
provided stability and confidence to shareholders.
We wish John all the best in his retirement and thank him for all these years
at the company's side."
