The authors of this paper state that the risks associated with this procedure include those that come with using normal dermal matrix materials - the risk of infectious disease transmission, failure of graft incorporation, and foreign-body reaction to the graft tissue.

BTM is synthetic and so has no cross-species disease transfer risk and provides no food supply for bacteria. The BTM chambers compartmentalize the wound and create a physical barrier that aids in minimizing foreign body response. And to date, BTM has demonstrated very low levels of graft failure.

I can see absolutely no reason why BTM couldn’t be adapted for use in shoulder surgery.
