But it is very unlikely the lenders will sell the returned shares immediately when the sp is still at 40c a share. The lender is confident that the sp will recover.
And it is very likely the lenders buy more shares at 40c a share. This buying more shares cheaply is what I suspect the main reason big shareholders lend their shares for shorting purposes in the first place. They actually want to buy more of the stock cheaply, but they don't want to take the risk in trying to push the sp down. So they let the shorts take the risk.
That is just my suspicion. That is what I would do if I were in that position, anyway.
