Rudd is a self centered twat in my opinion. He is too much like Trump, always talking himself up and talking down to people who actually know when they are talking shite. He helped to create the mother of all debt bomb for Australia which no politician since has had any idea how to fix. Now we no longer have a left and a right in Australia. We have different magnitudes of left since nobody can get elected with balanced books and without promises of free handouts to endless lists of freeloaders who are all positioned to conveniently help tip the balance to whoever promises the biggest bribes. The middle is no longer in the middle.

I'm not against breaking a few eggs, even at current prices, and change is usually painful but nothing about this is smart business or politics. Misleading the average person with false claims suggesting that it will be foreign governments who pay the tariffs and not the US consumers is really poor form. By all means shoot for more self-reliance. I reckon Australia could benefit from that also to some degree. But at the very least try to understand how things work and develop an intelligent plan as to how to get there. What we are seeing is scorched earth economics both in the US and Australia. It can only end badly for the majority of people in the west. There will be winners out of all of this but not the ones who have been promised the earth.
