DIVIDEND: AFI: Dividend Substitution Share Plan

Australian Foundation Investment Company Limited Dividend Substitution Share
Plan

The Company is pleased to announce the introduction of a Dividend
Substitution Share Plan (DSSP).

For future dividends, the DSSP will enable eligible shareholders to elect to
forgo their right to a dividend and receive bonus shares instead. The DSSP
will operate alongside the Company's existing Dividend Reinvestment Plan
(DRP) but importantly has different taxation implications to the DRP.

It is important that shareholders carefully read the Rules of the DSSP and
seek their own independent advice before participating in the DSSP.

A copy of the Rules of the DSSP is attached and further details will be sent
to shareholders with their interim dividend statements.

A copy of the relevant tax ruling is available on the Company's website.
