To get the dividend you have to buy CBA before close of trading on the 16th August, goes ex dividend on 17th. In theory the CBA price will fall around $2.00 on Tuesday and if you sell your holding you still get the dividend. In this market with the off market buyback I expect the SP will hold up well after going ex dividend
p.s. The off market buyback really only suits SMSF retail investors and institutional holders. At current prices the value of the franking credit is around $13 a share
