Whether you buy now for the dividend or wait really depends on your personal tax situation and whether you are a long term holder or a short term trader (again for tax benefits). If you are a value investor and want to acquire as many shares as possible for your $$$ then you will wait. The IO price also factors into this - for example look at BHP overshooting ex-dividend.
