Hey FMG guru's. Going back to basics here, so pretend that I'm a 5yo for this discussion (I think some (many) HC posters think like 5 yo's).
This sudden sell off by one institutional investor doesn't affect the dividends at all, correct? Dividends are just a function of profit and percent of that profit will be returned to the shareholders. Whatever the SP is, is irrelevant to the slice of profit that is returned to the shareholders, is that true? Or can FMG decide that the SP has dropped, so they will drop the slice of pie they are sending back to shareholders. But that doesn't make sense to me, or am I missing something?
Moving forward, the SP in theory should bounce, because we're suddenly getting a bigger return as a percent of the SP, and the SP is largely driven by how big the dividend is.
I suppose the SP is also driven by how stable the SP is, and if institutions just dump a lazy $1B or two every 6 weeks, that's not good for a stable SP, and may affect future sentiment to the SP.
But, unless these sell offs are because they have predicted future earning drops, and they are correct, unless this is true, for the LTH, it's just a matter of holding, or even buying in these lows, correct???
