When you word it like that Benson it is hard to believe the destruction is accidental.
Coal, IO, and gas exports have held up the national accounts in recent years. Plus an array of smaller supporting but important elements, agriculture, livestock, other minerals, etc. As we've been jamming more and more consumers into the country those exports are the only things counterbalancing the books. Or trying to.
Our economy is beyond sick. I read somewhere we have comparable economic complexity to the average low-mid tier African nation. Gutting manufacturing over decades has an effect. When the only jobs growth is in government sponsored sectors like the NDIS, then Houston, we have a problem.
We have not so much the 'knowledge economy' as the 'houses & holes, barista & public servant' economy.
Strangely, they have no mandate to destroy our nation. But every act seems consistent with that being their aim. One wonders why they would apply themselves so diligently to such a treasonous cause?
Sorry to get political. It is hard to witness what this nation has become at times.
On the bright side, this dividend was better that I expected. And the company has a positive capacity trajectory that should hopefully see solid growth YoY even at this new normal level of coal prices. Would be nice to know what they are going to do with that extra cash, but I guess we have to trust in their record on being mostly smart in such things.
In time our people might even wake up to the wider lies.
