Suncorp shares should surge after the group delivered a solid 10% beat of Bloomberg's consensus estimate with a FY20 cash profit of $1.06bn, a final dividend of 20cps which was twice the consensus estimate, plus an 8cps special and a $250m share buyback.
While equivalent to just 1.6% of shares on issue, the buyback, together with the profit beat, special dividend and commitment to returning excess capital to shareholders more than makeup for the "uncertain" outlook due to Covid lockdowns and restrictions.
