Not sure why you replied to my post, I was simply alluding to the usual dribble on HC where something that goes up can be described as much reduced!!!
Nothing special in the WBC result. I haven't had a chance to have a good look, but appears to be close to forecasts and market does what it does.
I think many holders are happy to get a reasonable return coupled with solid capital growth over the past few years. In fact the best money was made in recent times by buying during Covid when the naysayers were predicting bank collapses and market mayhem. The same ones are still at it because they have an agenda.
Our major banks are highly regulated, mature businesses and significant growth is hard to come by. We have seen various ill fated attempts to break into other markets which has not ended well and of course the RC laid bare the folly and bad practises entrenched in Insurance and financial planning which was the growth area all the banks embraced to try and gain an edge.
Hence all the banks went back to their core business and at the moment just keep churning out cash results, which of course suggests that SP growth may be limited after the rerating they have had in recent times.
As memories fade we may see a move to buy into other markets once again and it will again be buyer beware.
The real driver for growth and trying to pick the winners and losers will be if they dismantle the 4 pillars policy which I am sure the Banks would like.
At the moment our banks are tied up with this policy but because of our small market doubt if there will be any change any time soon.
You won't get any argument from me about the ridiculous levels of management salaries (in all our major companies and also the public service where there is not any accountability at all!!).
I only bought into WBC a couple of years ago when they were doing the off market buy back and have retained one small parcel, but sometimes read the bank threads to find out the latest analytical gem, such as that WBC should be valued based on some short term price spike many years ago (serious FA going on thereconfused.png) and that apparently a Trump win will likely split our banks up (Think there will be more for him to worry about with their own banks and economy)
No doubt sometime in the future (could be tomorrow for all I know) we will have another black swan event or scare and the general market will implode - often a good time to buy solid cash producing companies.
No advice intended and all just my opinion................
