Depending on what one's strategy is with buying before or after the div ex date. Buying after would reduce the paper loss, but then one wouldn't get the dividend $. I prefer to buy before to get the dividend payment but endure a larger paper loss, which is ok because in time I would expect the price to recover, but at least I get the dividend for capital redeployment.
I am curious to hear other thoughts on dividend strategies.
