This has been the standard forever. We sometimes grt caught thinking we got a windfall when in fact we didn't.
My main observation of this type of scenario is that when you have full service brokers they often will alert you to such things where as in this day & age with everybody doing their own thing some investors don't read the fine print and get caught.
