They get squeezed out until ST exhaustion which then when the trend continues it will pop significantly north with less selling pressure. The longer the squeeze the bigger the movement.
It also cools the technicals allowing the moving averages to to converge and supply/demand to balance.
Also the divergence between GL1/GT1 valuations is increasing causing ESS to lag behind
